Meet Into The Box 2016 Speaker: Brad Wood

Brad Wood

Brad grew up in southern Missouri and after high school majored in Computer Science with a music minor at MidAmerica Nazarene University (Olathe, KS). Today he lives in Kansas City with his wife and three girls. Brad enjoys all sorts of international food and the great outdoors.

Brad has been programming ColdFusion for 12 years and has used every version of CF since 4.5. He first fell in love with ColdFusion as a way to easily connect a database to his website for dynamic pages. He enjoys configuring and performance tuning high-availability Windows and Linux ColdFusion environments as well as SQL Server.

Q & A with Brad

What made you want to speak at ITB 2016?

I love learning about new tech and teaching new tricks to other people as well. The Ortus suite of Box productivity tools are keeping CFML relevant in a fast-moving world of languages and I love being a part of this software revolution. It's great to see exciting new ideas sparked inside people's brains as they learn faster and smarter ways to development kick butt products that they're proud of.

Anything in particular that you want to experience during the conference?

Any time I can chat in-person with community members that I've been working with but never met is a great feeling. I look forward every year to just talking to other developers about where their development pain points are how we can build tooling to alleviate them.

Tell us something random about yourself:

My very first programming language was LogoWriter on an Apple Ie computer.

A Software Revolution!

Converting Legacy Apps into Modern MVC

Do you have an old CFML site that needs to be brought up to speed to reduce maintenance and frustration? Come learn techniques and tips to convert your code to modern MVC.

Live Scaling with CouchBase Server

In this session we will review how easy it is to create, manage and expand a Couchbase NoSQL Cluster. We will then use such cluster to scale any web application with a focused demo on a real-life ContentBox Modular CMS site.

Intro to CommandBox tech tasting session

CommandBox is a standalone, native tool for Windows, Mac, and Linux that will provide you with a Command Line Interface (CLI) for developer productivity, tool interaction, package management, embedded CFML server, application scaffolding, and some sweet ASCII art. It seamlessly integrate to work with any of our *Box products but it is also open for extensibility for any ColdFusion (CFML) project as it is also written in ColdFusion (CFML) using our concepts of CommandBox Commands. Built-in help is completely integrated for every command, so you can always know how to work with CommandBox. You can pop open a CommandBox shell in your terminal window and manually type commands, or even automate things externally via the CommandBox binary box with your OS's native shell and create awesome command recipes for automation, building, deploying, you name it! Package Management, Application Scaffolding, Extensible Via CFML and Embedded Server are already included in CommandBox.
