Meet Into The Box 2016 Speaker: Eric Peterson

Eric Peterson

Eric Peterson (@_elpete) is a cfml and javascript developer at O.C. Tanner in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah and received a degree in Information Systems thinking he would hate programming as a career. He started programming in cfml (and in general) in 2012 and has never been more happy to be proved wrong. What he lacks in experience, he makes up for by demos and blogging. A beginner himself, he blogs about many beginner topics at http://dev.elpete.com.

Q & A with Eric

What made you want to speak at ITB 2016?

I wanted to speak at ITB 2016 as a way to push my own understanding of certain topics by teaching them to others. I also wanted to speak as a deadline for myself for creating awesome open source contributions and modules.

Anything in particular that you want to experience during the conference?

I'd love to learn about new features of the *box products, especially ColdBox and TestBox. I'd also love to see awesome modules created by the community.

Tell us something random about yourself:

I've played the piano for over 20 years. I compose and arrange music, mostly religious songs, at http://music.elpete.com.

Best Practices are Best, Except When They're Not tech tasting session

A code-review of sorts where we go over some of the real-world situations when things just don't go the way the Stack Overflow Gods say they should. We'll look at the pros and cons of solutions in these situations and the lessons hopefully learned along the way. We all see lots of "well I would never do it THAT way" comments on blog posts, mailing lists, and the all-mighty Stack Overflow. But what about when you HAVE to do it that way? Let's look at some of these situations and talk about different solutions that might not be the most elegant, but solved the problem, and helped us learn something for making the next version of our app better.
