Q & A with Scott

What made you want to speak at Into The Box 2015?

I love ColdBox and its ecosystem and am excited to encourage developers to port their legacy apps to ColdBox!

What does web development mean to you?

Web development is special in that you immediately have limitless users and opportunities. I love the different layers involved, from IT/sysadmin to UI/UX on the client.

Anything you want to experience during the conference?

I look forward to learning what others are doing and seeing how I can better myself and provide a better product for my clients.

What advice would you give to your younger self, knowing what you know now?

In addition to mastering the day-to-day coding tactics, be sure to look at broader patterns always look to the bigger picture.

This year's lineup of speakers has lots of quality, what other session(s) are you looking forward to attending?

There are many I’d like to attend but I don’t want to miss the NoSQL for You and Me and Coldbox 4 MVC Modular Architecture sessions. I wouldn’t mind a refresher on BDD, too!

Scott's Session

Q & A with Matt

What made you want to speak at Into The Box 2015?

I'm a big fan of Ortus Solutions products (and documentation wizardry) and I had heard fantastic reviews and things about Into The Box 2014. The company's products and services continue to grow as does it's interaction with the development community. Who would not want to be a part of something so vibrant and passionate?

What does web development mean to you?

It means fun, living and enjoyment. This is the greatest career path, as if you enjoy something so much it's not work. It's a hobby you get paid for. I'm very fortunate to be happy doing what I love to do.

Anything you want to experience during the conference?

I love learning. There is always something new to learn, some new way of looking at a problem or perhaps just resurrecting an old idea or technology and putting a new spin on it. I want to feel empowered with knowledge and buzzing with excitement from the great sessions and speakers.

I also want to experience the mariachi band I heard so much about last year!

What advice would you give to your younger self, knowing what you know now?

Projects differ. Some you'll love, some you'll hate. The same goes with technology you may have to use. Never be put off by any of it. You are still doing what you love to do and every single second of it will make you a better person (although you might not realize it at the time).

And for goodness sake do not wear that horrible blue silk shirt to the nightclubs when you are 18!

This year's lineup of speakers has lots of quality, what other session(s) are you looking forward to attending?

I've always been a big fan of automation and simplifying processes. Whilst all of the speakers and sessions are incredible I'm looking forward to "Behaviour Drive Development, Automation and Continuous Integration" as well as ANYTHING related to CommandBox CLI.

Q & A with Joel

What made you want to speak at Into The Box 2015?

During my career in web development, I've been blessed to receive help and guidance from a lot of other developers. I think the best way of saying "thanks" is to do the same for others and contribute back to the community. Plus, being able to participate in things like Into the Box is a great way to meet new people and network with other developers.

What does web development mean to you?

Development is my way of self-expression. I am daily amazed at what can be done with web technologies, and I find a significant amount of personal fulfillment in being able to build something that other people find useful and beneficial.

Anything you want to experience during the conference?

I want to learn a lot! Conferences are a great time to be exposed to different ideas, not only by attending sessions, but also by networking with other developers. I want to come away with a few things I never knew before. Speakers and attendees, I'm looking at you!

What advice would you give to your younger self, knowing what you know now?

Get started earlier, be humble, and never be satisfied that you've "learned enough." There is always someone out there (probably a lot of people!) who knows more than you do...seek them out and learn from them!!

This year's lineup of speakers has lots of quality, what other session(s) are you looking forward to attending?

I'm really excited about the CommandBox sessions, as well as the session about Vagrant.

Q & A with Luis

What made you want to speak at Into The Box?

I guess I have no choice as I am the one organizing the conference :)
Apart from being the organizer, I am also the author of the majority of the products, so it is a delight to be able to have a venue to speak about them.

What does web development mean to you?

Ever since I was a kid I loved to solve problems. I also loved when you have a blank canvas and you can paint or create a project from nothing.  Web development is a career where problem-solving is at its best.  Full of challenges, intricacies and lots lots of learning.  For those reasons, web development is just something that is part of me that I love.

Anything you want to experience during the conference?

A sense of community.  Last year we had a blast.  Over 60 developers and managers from around the globe converging for more than 12 hours of geekness and fun!  Being able to meet folks from all walks of life, talk to them and get a first-hand perspective is priceless!

What advice would you give to your younger self, knowing what you know now?

Warm up before any tennis match, if not your knees will regret it!

This year's lineup of speakers has lots of quality, what other session(s) are you looking forward to attending?
